The Gujarat Ecology Society (GES) is participating in the ongoing IUCN World Conservation Congress (WCC) 2025 in Abu Dhabi, joining global leaders, scientists, and policymakers in advancing collective action for nature conservation. The National Red List Assessment (NRLA) initiative, as announced by Union Minister of State for Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Shri Kirti Vardhan Singh, marks a historic step toward developing a nationally coordinated system for evaluating the conservation status of India’s flora and fauna. It will serve as a cornerstone for scientific research, ecosystem management, and policy formulation, reflecting India’s dedication to the Kunming–Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (KMGBF).

Through its participation at WCC 2025, GES is showcasing its long-standing contributions in ecosystem restoration, biodiversity documentation, and Nature-Based Solutions (NbS) — emphasizing how regional scientific expertise and community participation can support India’s national biodiversity goals.
The session is being attended by several eminent representatives from India’s leading biodiversity and conservation institutions, including Dr. Dhriti Banerjee, Director, Zoological Survey of India (ZSI); Dr. Kanad Das, Director, Botanical Survey of India (BSI); Mr. Vivek Menon, Co-founder and CEO, Wildlife Trust of India (WTI) and from Gujarat Dr. Vijay Kumar, Director, GUIDE; Mr. Sandeep Virmani, President, Sahjeevan Trust; and Dr. Sonia Thadani, Assistant Director, Gujarat Ecology Society (GES).
